”Since everything seen or said, even the slightest, most trivial thing, can bear a connection to the outcome of the story, nothing must be overlooked. Everything becomes essence.”

‘City of Glass’, Paul Auster

This series consists of portraits of men. ‘Portrait’ in the classical meaning of the word: to capture a person's facial features, as well as in the renaissance point of view: to capture the essence of a person. The printed photographs are transferred onto canvas. A reference to the portrait as we know it in classical painting and, by extension, a nod to the genre 'photographic portraits of artists’. There is a vague spatial designation, a supportive environment for the model. But there is nothing that can derive the spectator. He can use his undivided attention to explore the specificity of each portrayed model.

Exhibition: 30/30cm black and white print, in an edition of 5, transferred onto canvas, mounted on a wooden chassis.
